But I'd never seen - or even read - King Lear till Saturday night.So, first impressions:
- Amazing language: 'that way madness lies...'; 'as flies to wanton boys' and lots of other standard phrases reveal their origin;
- Variable to good acting ( Tobias Menzies as Edgar/Poor Tom absolutely amazing, Pete Postlewaite as Lear impressive on his 64th birthday);
- But, crickey, the end of the plot is almost a caricature of a Shakespeare play. 90% of the main characters end up dead on stage as if it was a version of Reservoir Codpieces.
